In 1970, as a graduate of San Diego State University with a degree in real estate and international marketing, Jim launched both a long real estate career and a fifty-year marriage in his hometown of La Jolla, California. Quickly their more adventuring spirit prevailed, and he and Nancy moved to the foothills of the Sierras where he spent many years selling mountain homes and large acreages. Opening his first brokerage there in 1974, Jim learned to listen, understand, and support his client’s residential dreams from simple homesteads to the finest of California hillside estates. The Barnharts moved with their growing family to Eugene in 1987 and only five years later opened Barnhart Associates Real Estate. It soon became the top office in average agent production for over twenty years.
Nancy retired in 2007, they sold the company and their magnificent turn-of-the century office at 14th and Pearl, and Jim continued his career with Ron and Bess Blacquiere, owners of Equinox Real Estate in 2011. This experienced real estate partnership has proven successful, personally stimulating, and fun!
Jim’s credentials include previous licensing as a building contractor in both California and Oregon and graduate training in residential architecture. He remains committed to supporting his clients understanding of the power in the “built environment” and the relationship it has to our personal well-being. As a designer/builder, as well as a consummate broker, fine environment is Jim’s specialty and serving his real estate clientele is his lifelong joy.
